A Hidden Treasure

On the south wall of the Odin underpass is an important historic monument. Russell Carlton was 22 years old in 1985 when he conceived of “Blue Moon Trilogy”. His goal was to raise AIDS awareness and understanding. A bronze plaque is dedicated "to this work of compassion".

Over the years the mural has been horribly vandalized. Councilmember David Ryu has allocated $60,000 to restore the mural - a positive reminder of the many lives lost. We greatly appreciate CD4’s support.

Paperwork is on Mayor Garcetti's desk. Start date: early fall. Funds for better lighting and power-washing the tunnel are being sought.

Last cleaned in 1993. Most of us have no idea a once vibrant mural ever exists.

Archival letter written by the artist.

Bronze plaque near Fairfield. Read it in person.

A YouTube link includes several interviews with the artist.

Russell's artwork and inspirational vision will get the care and attention it deserves.

Let's not forget Whitley Heights was divided by the construction of the 101 freeway. "Blue Moon Trilogy" promises to unite our historic community. Thank you, again, David Ryu.
