A Hidden Treasure

On the south wall of the Odin underpass is an important historic monument. Russell Carlton was 22 years old in 1985 when he conceived of “Blue Moon Trilogy”. His goal was to raise AIDS awareness and understanding. A bronze plaque is dedicated "to this work of compassion".

Over the years the mural has been horribly vandalized. Councilmember David Ryu has allocated $60,000 to restore the mural - a positive reminder of the many lives lost. We greatly appreciate CD4’s support.

Paperwork is on Mayor Garcetti's desk. Start date: early fall. Funds for better lighting and power-washing the tunnel are being sought.

Last cleaned in 1993. Most of us have no idea a once vibrant mural ever exists.

Graffiti Removal in the Park

Many thanks to the neighbors who volunteered Sunday to remove the 18th Street Gang tagging in Picnic Area 13. Mark Roper, Louise Ferro, Michael Green, Susan Harmon, Brian Siberell, Brad Chambers, Schelley Kiah, John Girodo, and a sympathetic couple nobody knew rolled up their sleeves and tackled the job at hand.

John deserves praise for his cheerful persistance on the Park Committee. He introducing us

to art conservator, Donna Williams. Donna's magic biodegradable potions helped minimize the gang spray painting. The unsightly tagging done last month.

Bowl Maintenance planted creeping fig at the base of the wall. Eventually this will be a deterrent.

Robert Lee - IT/Web Guru

Robert Lee, has both a creative and technical mind. The website committee contacted him a year ago to assist with designing the NEW WhitleyHeights.org. He listened, engaged, suggested, taught, and worked tirelessly on behalf of our community. No detail was too small. For example, on the Stars Page, Robert made sure that the picture we used of Bozo was actually Vance Colvig. Who does that?

In addition to his IT work, Robert is an actor. You can catch him in an upcoming episode of Wisdom of the Crowd (Oct. 15), the Amazon series 2nd season of Goliath, and an upcoming McDonald’s commercial featuring the phrase “It’s 7:22".  He also did a fun commercial for CareerBuilder.com, which can be viewed HERE. Enjoy!
