CHP/Caltrans update
Officer Hong with CHP writes:
01/16/2018 Caltrans has cleaned the Cahuenga Blvd. On-ramp to the southbound 101 freeway. We are also in the process of scheduling a cleanup with Caltrans for the southbound 101 Cahuenga Blvd off-ramp. There are some red tape we need to address for the off-ramp since we need a physical freeway closure for the freeway off-ramp. My partner and I will be providing constant homeless outreach in an attempt to mitigate the problems. I will keep you updated on the progress but in the meantime please let me know if there are any other areas of concerns.
Yesterday morning three WHCA board members met with three Caltrans employees and Angie Aramayo in Assemblyman Nazarian’s office to discuss the homeless who really like congregating along the Whitley Heights soundwall. From a neighbor's balcony on Iris Circle one could see the entire stretch of the SB 101 embankment. The group drove to both ends sound wall to familiarize themselves. Fairfield is a success story.
This morning numerous Caltrans trucks and one Chrysalis van were parked at the Fairfield cul-de-sac. A large crew of men and women entered through the sound wall door to clean up the freeway side. They sprayed weed retardant and removed a felled eucalyptus tree between the chainlink fence and the soundwall. They were careful not to spray the bougainvillea planted by neighbors along the fence.

The SB Cahuenga off ramp continues to be a royal mess.

A partner approach with Caltrans maintenance division was recommended. Our goal is to find ways to deter transients who make trash and graffiti. Possible ideas are: plants, rocks, fencing, clean sweeps with the community. Additional meetings with District 7 engineers are in the works.
Casting a blind eye and/or complaining is no way to fix this problem. If you care to make a positive difference, please contact: president@whitleyheights.org
Our community is grateful to the various Caltrans departments for their contributions as well as the agencies they work with. These include LAPD, CD4, CHP, Assemblyman Nazarian, HHWNC, WHCA.

Thank you, Patty! I appreciate all your hard work.
