Mail theft on Whitley Terrace/Wedgewood

I collected discarded mail stolen from 6767 Whitley Terrace and 6767 Wedgewood Pl this morning. It was strewn across MIlner just east of Watsonia. I delivered it to the addresses, but if they are your mailboxes, you might look into securing them, if possible.

In January WHCA installed five solar lights along the sound wall with LACPF grant money.

LAPD SLO Heather Mata notes that Whitley Heights and the Dell have been getting hit hard. Detectives are following multiple leads. She is encouraging residents to file 311 Service Requests for all streets lights affected by this copper wire theft and flag those requests to:

Motion activated solar light attached to homeowner's cypress tree at 6654 Whitley Terrace. Be sure to aim spotligt away from the street to avoid startling drivers. Black mesh was placed over light to soften brightness. Flood lights may be better option.

Update - Man In Need of Mental Evaluation

On Monday at 8:00 am residents encountered a troubled man wearing only green pants. He displayed unusual behavior that only escalated. Neighbors felt unsafe.

911 calls brought the police four times to Whitley Terrace, Grace Avenue, and Emmet Terrace during the course of 12 hours. The officers were patient and spent hours of their valuable time talking with him.

Post Patrol, ACS Patrol, LAFD, and CIRCLE tried to get the man to agree to accept help. He resisted. By 8 pm the streets were quiet and peaceful again. No man. All agencies were gone.

Here is Senior Lead Officer Heather Mata's update:

"It looks like the man was placed in handcuffs to evaluate for a possible 51.50 hold. Officers and LAFD determined that he did not meet the criteria and was then released. They had no reports of any other crime.

You all did the right thing by calling 911.…
