18th Street Gang

There's been an increase in gang tagging above Franklin. A house was tagged on Whitley Terrace by the sound wall. A van was tagged on Fairfield. The park behind the Hollywood Heritage Museum is a major target. We asked our SLO Annabelle Eubank if she had insight. She writes:

"In speaking with our gang enforcement team, they relayed that it’s common for gangs to increase their activity when a member of their gang has been released from prison and/or when new members are appointed into the gang. It’s a show of force if you will. Tagging is also a form of advertising their “territory.

Currently, no gangs are feuding with any rival gangs. That sometimes prompts an increase in tagging.

I made contact with an 18th St gang member yesterday on Hollywood Bl, near Highland. Goes by the name of “Rabbit”. He ran from officers and I spotted him in a clothing store while conducting a footbeat in the area. He was subsequently arrested. He was recently released from prison. He did not disclose any useful information regarding recent activity.

We will continue to work on the increased gang activity in that area. If there is any indication in the increased activity, I will let you know."

LAPD does amazing work on our behalf.

When you see graffiti, the quickest way to see results is to submit a service request on MyLA311 app. Another way is to call LABT: 323-962-2162 or email them at: hbteam@earthlink.net. If you see graffiti in the park email Gina Leoni with the Bowl: GLeoni@LAPhil.org The sooner the tagging is removed the better.
