Why we switched from Post to ACS security
Quite a few years ago, during an upsurge in crime, we joined a good number of our neighbors in installing a comprehensive monitoring system to accompany the dedicated patrol service that Post Security had provided for Whitley Heights. Many of us subscribed in order to reach the minimum required for a dedicated patrol car. Covid upset a lot of things and evidently, our enrollment slipped below the minimum Post required and we lost both our dedicated patrol car and our quick patrol response time. Our own experience and what we’ve heard from our neighbors indicate that Post’s response time grew longer and longer, often to an hour or 90 minutes. If we believe there is a threat to our safety, that’s an unacceptably long response time. Despite Post apparently maintaining responsive alarm monitoring, they failed to inform us of their drastically increased patrol response times nor did they offer to adjust our rates to reflect the degradation of our service. Because Post chose not to warn us their patrols had become far less responsive, we believe they effectively betrayed our trust in them. In February 2023, the presidents of Whitley Heights, Outpost and Hollywood Heights associations met to discuss the deteriorating patrol response in all three neighborhoods despite having 159 Post subscribers. A letter of complaint was written to Post. After 20 days with no response, a follow up letter was written. Eleven days after that, Post finally responded. Instead of apologizing, they cited their increased costs and complained about other company’s “shady practices”. ACS is a national security firm and a direct competitor with Post. They have served neighborhoods to our east including The Oaks. Those associations appear quite happy with ACS’ services including monitoring, patrols and response time. We believe that our goal should be a dedicated car that patrols our streets, hopefully multiple times a day. In order to achieve that level of security, we and our two immediate neighboring associations must have a minimum number of subscribers to a single security service.. ACS will give us a dedicated car if 115 of the approximately 1000 residents of Whitley Heights, Outpost and Hollywood Heights subscribe. Currently 159 subscribe to Post, whose service seems to be terrible. We switched our security service from Post to ACS to receive a faster patrol response immediately and to ultimately build toward a dedicated car. We were also unhappy about Post’s lack of communication. We didn’t want to reward Post for their failure to notify us that they had diminished our protection. We hope that ACS will do a better job and that we may once again have a dedicated, quick-response patrol. Robert Primes Theodora Primes 2062 Watsonia Terrace
