Copper Wire Theft
Iris Circle has been dark for two months. Odin tunnel recessed lights are out as well. On July 3rd, most of Whitley Heights experienced dark streets. However, dog-walkers won't need a flashlight to see where they're going on Wedgewood Place. Street lights remain bright from dusk till dawn. In January WHCA installed five solar lights along the sound wall with LACPF grant money.
LAPD SLO Heather Mata notes that Whitley Heights and the Dell have been getting hit hard. Detectives are following multiple leads. She is encouraging residents to file 311 Service Requests for all streets lights affected by this copper wire theft and flag those requests to:
CD4 Field Deputy J Anderson jonathan.anderson@lacity.org
and Officer Mata 40988@lapd.online
Stay proactive. WHCA suggests that neighbors might want to consider buying solar lights as a temporary security measure. Bell & Howell Bionic Spotlight is one recommended brand. They are small, simple to assemble and can easily attach to something on your property to further illuminate your property. Cost: $18.00.
Block captain Bob Primes is tech-savvy. He bought a LYWALT multihead light. It features 4 light panels and 2 motion sensors for increased motion detection. Amazon pick. Cost: two for $29.95.

Motion activated solar light attached to homeowner's cypress tree at 6654 Whitley Terrace. Be sure to aim spotligt away from the street to avoid startling drivers. Black mesh was placed over light to soften brightness. Flood lights may be better option.
