Sheriff's Deputy Scam

Be on alert for threatening phone calls from anyone claiming to be a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy.


I received a call the morning of May 4th from a man who claimed to be LA County Sheriff’s Deputy Steven Kado (he spelled it for me) with a badge ID 25021. He told me that he was calling because I had not responded to a grand jury summons from Van Nuys Superior Court. I had not received any summons so he confirmed my name and address. He told me that I could file necessary paperwork to avoid an arrest warrant if I appeared by appointment at the Courthouse that afternoon.


I made the appointment for 2:30 and he then asked me to contact him 45 minutes before the appointment and he would “issue my instructions” as to where to go. He gave me a choice of two telephone numbers to call,…

Mail theft on Whitley Terrace/Wedgewood

I collected discarded mail stolen from 6767 Whitley Terrace and 6767 Wedgewood Pl this morning. It was strewn across MIlner just east of Watsonia. I delivered it to the addresses, but if they are your mailboxes, you might look into securing them, if possible.

Copper Wire Theft

Iris Circle has been dark for two months. Odin tunnel recessed lights are out as well. On July 3rd, most of Whitley Heights experienced dark streets. However, dog-walkers won't need a flashlight to see where they're going on Wedgewood Place. Street lights remain bright from dusk till dawn. In January WHCA installed five solar lights along the sound wall with LACPF grant money.


LAPD SLO Heather Mata notes that Whitley Heights and the Dell have been getting hit hard. Detectives are following multiple leads. She is encouraging residents to file 311 Service Requests for all streets lights affected by this copper wire theft and flag those requests to:

Motion activated solar light attached to homeowner's cypress tree at 6654 Whitley Terrace. Be sure to aim spotligt away from the street to avoid startling drivers. Black mesh was placed over light to soften brightness. Flood lights may be better option.
