Hollywood Bowl Community Advisory Committee
Met Monday to talk about closures at Highland & Milner & Camrose. * Consensus was that it works pretty well, especially on our side of Highland. And it should improve as people become more accustomed. * Regarding Milner, they're trying to figure out where, if necessary, to post additional guards or signs to discourage drivers from clogging up the Bonair-Las Palmas-Milner area when the Highland exit is closed. * Next closure is Sept. 10, Dave Matthews Band, the first leased, non LA Phil event. No further planned closures on the calendar this season.
* For 2019, they're considering more frequent closures, but budget's a problem. It costs $6,000-$10,000 per event to close the streets and assign cops to all the affected entrances and exits in Whitley Heights & Hollywood Heights & Outpost. One option is focusing on the big (10,000+ ticket sales) weekday events that start around rush hour. Comments welcome. * Reminder: Sunday Sept. 30 is the 100th anniversary celebration of the Bowl. You can enter the lottery for tickets to LAPhil/Katy Perry/Herbie Hancock et al concert. Also, Sept. 30 is CycLAvia, 9 a.m.-4 pm. ``a massive 8-mile street party'' connecting Disney Hall and the Bowl. Bike journey ends at Vine & Yucca and there will be shuttle buses from there to the Bowl via Franklin & Highland. Expect massive 8-mile traffic jam. Website: LAPhil.com/CelebrateLA
