Wilcox Ave. Hotel Proposal Withdrawn at Planning Commission Hearing Yesterday.
Good news!
The proposed Hotel at 1723 -1731 N. Wilcox Ave. next to the Whiskey Hotel going up, replacing residential/RSO complex has been scrapped for now.
At the Planning Commission ZA hearing yesterday, the applicant requested a ‘continuance’ to rethink the project in light of pandemic and affordable housing shortage.
They will redesign either a residential project, to create more residential and affordable than is currently there (which was their original proposal, supported by HHWNC), or a redesigned hotel with residential and affordable units included.
The new hearing date is Sept. 13th with permission for more time if needed. HHWNC did not support the proposed hotel due to so much displacement, loss of residential and affordable housing in the (CD13) area for hotels and luxury projects.
If you submitted comments opposing hotel project and supporting the appeal…
Thank you!
For now, the residents can rest easy, and stay in their homes longer, and that’s a good thing.

Fantastic news. Thank you, Annie, Jeff, Schelley, John and others for all you do.
