ACTIONS TO STOP SB 50! DEADLINE JAN. 24th!

Hundreds of communities and cities across California oppose the radical, state mandated development SB 50 bill by State Sen. Scott Wiener of San Francisco. SB 50 bans single family zoning in most of California and will allow developers to buy out and bulldoze working class, middle class and historic homes, replacing them with 10 unit luxury apartments, luxury four-plexes, or apartment towers up to 8 stories. And there's more: https://www.livablecalifornia.org/portfolio-items/stop-sb-50/ Sen. Anthony Portantino stopped SB 50 in his Appropriations Committee, but it's back. On Jan. 6th, Sen. Wiener will unveil changes to SB 50 in his bid to silence powerful opponents like the L.A. City Council —who voted unanimously to OPPOSE SB 50, by handing them exemptions from SB 50, and once again Sen. Wiener will  hide his surprises in legaleze that few people can untangle.

Californians must stop Scott Wiener by Jan. 24th — if we stop him by then, SB 50 is DEAD.

City Council voted unanimously to OPPOSE SB 50. Councilmember Paul Koretz has spoken against SB 50 at most of the SB 50 Town Halls and debated Sen. Wiener on news programs. Sen. Ben Allen as well as Santa Monica Mayor Gleam Davis, presented the many reasons why they are opposed to SB 50 at the SB 50 Broad Stage Town Hall in Santa Monica that Sen. Scott Wiener walked out of, so attendees lining up never had the opportunity to ask him questions about his bill. Sen. Bob Hertzberg of Van Nuys/Sherman Oaks area has been very opposed. Thank you. Certain cities are being targeted.. the cash cow cities where developers can get more bang for their buck .. LA, San Francisco top the list. LA City Council and SF supervisors voted against the developer funded bill. LA Chief Legislative Analyst Report data confirmed LA is already building way beyond State requirements, but this is where SB 50 will hit hardest. Upzoning only increases land value so nothing affordable will be built so many renters and equity orgs oppose too as it will cause massive displacement. In addition to wiping out single family zoning across the whole state.
