Bee Colony on Whitley Terrace
A swarm of western honey bees has formed a colony in the ficus hedge at 6613 Whitley Terrace.
These flying insects are fascinating to watch. Fun fact: worker bees create a hive around a single queen. One!
They're incredibly busy and pretty much mind their own business. If unintentionally aggravated, they pose risks to homeowners, children, workmen, passers-by, and dog residents. Best enjoy from afar.

In the early 30s "Blonde Bombshell" Jean Harlow drove to 6613 Whitley for voice lessons. Her coach was resident Samuel Kayzer. Harlow was a queen bee herself. History repeats itself.

Both colonies were removed without incident.
Yesterday the LA Times reported that up to 40,000 bees in Pasadena sent five people, including firemen and police, with multiple stings to the hospital. Good thing Whitley Heights residents erred on the side of caution.
