Hollywood Bowl Sound Test - Details

Forwarded from Angela Babcock, Director of Community Engagement, Stratiscope:

Dear Hollywood Bowl Community

In response to your feedback regarding sound at the October community meeting, the LA Philharmonic met with representatives of your neighborhoods and would like to share with you some steps we are taking to address your concerns.

We first want to make you aware of a sound test that will occur at the Hollywood Bowl THIS Thursday, FEBRUARY 1, from 5:00-9:00pm.    We invite you to participate using this form to share your observations with us during the test:

You may submit your feedback as often as you like during the test. The more often you respond, the better we will capture your experience.

In response to your feedback in October, the LA Philharmonic engaged a sound consultant, Meridian Consultants, and Stratiscope, a community engagement consultant.  Angela Babcock with Stratiscope will be the primary community liaison for the upcoming year, while Meridian has been engaged to conduct a sound evaluation to assess the performance characteristics of the Bowl sound system and its impact on nearby neighborhoods, so options can be identified for mitigating these impacts.

The first step in this evaluation is the Thursday sound test.  Please expect fairly consistent sound during the 5:00-9:00pm time window, with 15 minute music loops of various musical genres.  Also, please be aware that 4 digital sound monitors will be strategically placed throughout the Bowl neighboring communities.  Based on our experience and what we have heard from residents, we have identified the areas where we believe the greatest sound levels are being experienced in the neighborhoods. Monitors will be positioned in the HOLLYWOOD DELL, WHITLEY HEIGHTS, CAHUENGA TERRACE and LOS TILLOS.

After the testing Meridian will submit an analysis and evaluation to the LA Philharmonic,  The evaluation will summarize the findings of the test and identify mitigation options.  The next step will be for the LA Philharmonic to evaluate those options.

The third step will be another meeting with your neighborhood representatives to establish next steps in the process.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to Angela, angela@stratiscope.com or 626-826-4531.
