101 Cleanup

Saturday morning at 8:20 CALTRANS brought a Litter and Debris Crew to clean the SB Cahuenga off-ramp embankment. It took multiple trips to remove bags, mattresses, bikes, and other items. Orange agency trucks were seen parked at the Bella Vista Way cul-de-sac. Two big trash trucks awaited the haul.

This operation included CHP Officer Hernandez, who walked six transients down the narrow dirt path, past the "No Trespassing" sign to the street curb. The pilot program gate was installed by CALTRANS on Easter weekend. Sadly, it failed as a barrier.

I spoke to these hardworking men after they finished, and expressed how appreciative Whitley Heights is for what they did. All were humble, open, and easy to make laugh. This was an important clean up effort. Sanitation problems are hazardous for everyone involved.

If you wish to thank CALTRANS, the supervisor on duty was Darrell Williams. http://www.dot.ca.gov/feedback.htm
