STOP SB 50 Newsletter - No. 7 - June 6, 2019
THE SAME LOBBYISTS & LEGISLATORS WHO BROUGHT US SB 50 ARE AT IT AGAIN. Their strategy appears to be to dismember SB 50 into pieces, and then try to sneak these mini-bills through the state Senate and the Assembly before we realize what is going on.
Here are two such sneaky bills we need to OPPOSE: SB 330 AND AB 1279. IN ALL THESE BILLS, OUR DEMOCRATIC RIGHT TO HAVE A SAY IN OUR LOCAL ZONING IS STOLEN BY WALL STREET-FUNDED DEVELOPERS and the LEGISLATORS WHO DO THEIR BIDDING. CALL TO ACTION: Call your state senator, and tell the staff person who answers to tell your state senator that you are dead set against these two terrible bills:
• OPPOSE SB 330.
It does away with single family zoning in so-called "opportunity areas" (which are not defined) and because it is a perfect vehicle to gut and amend and bring back SB 50.
• OPPOSE AB 1279.
THIS IS A MINI-SB 50, imposing mandatory upzoning statewide.
Single-family homes would be able to be torn down and turned into four-unit buildings - without notice to neighbors or your city council; no city planning; no one (except you) paying for new infrastructure; no money for new schools, police, fire dept; you and your neighbors have NO RECOURSE.
There is NO exemption even for HPOZs (historic districts), resulting in massive losses of California's historic heritage.
Single-family home neighborhoods would be forced to be upzoned statewide in vaguely-worded "jobs-rich" areas (virtually all of Southern California). [BTW: RICHARD BLOOM - Assemblymember of District 50 (Mid-Wlshire and West LA/Santa Monica) is responsible for authoring this bill. If he is your Assemblymember, give him a piece of your mind on this bill!] LOCATE YOUR STATE SENATOR HERE: http://findyourrep.legislature.ca.gov/
SOME LOS ANGELES AREA STATE SENATORS & ASSEMBLY MEMBERS:
State Senator Ben Allen (26th District): 1+ 310 - 318-6994
State Senator Holly Mitchell (30th District): 1+ 213 - 745-6656
State Senator María Elena Durazo (24th District): 1 + 213 - 483-9300
Assemblymember Richard Bloom (50th District): 1+ 310 - 450-0041
Assemblymember Sydney Kamlager-Dove (54th District): 1+ 310 - 641-5410
Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (63rd District): 1 + 562 - 529-3250
Assemblymember Miguel Santiago (53rd District): 1 + 213 620-4646
_________________ THOUGHTS - AREN'T OUR STATE SENATORS AND ASSEMBLY MEMBERS SUPPOSED TO WORK ON OUR BEHALF? THESE BILLS ARE SIMPLY BETRAYALS AND STABS IN THE BACKS OF HOMEOWNERS AND RENTERS. THIS IS CONFISCATION OF THE LIFE SAVINGS OF TAXPAYERS WHO INVESTED IN THEIR HOMES.
THESE BILLS TURN OVER OUR STOLEN SAVINGS TO PRIVATE CORPORATIONS.
AND THESE BILLS PUT MILLIONS OF RENTERS AT RISK OF EVICTION AND HOMELESSNESS.
