Silents Under the Stars!

What a magical evening last night on Kendra Court! Seventy or so neighbors and friends gathered to watch the Buster Keaton silent film Steamboat Bill, Jr. from 1928, and no one left without a grin on their face. Many, many thanks to John Girodo and Patty Dryden who organized the evening fundraiser for WHCA ~ it was a terrific community-building event! Thanks also to Randy Haberkamp from the Academy of Motion Pictures who generously loaned us the pristine 16mm film and gave a great introduction, to Michael Mortilla our brilliant piano accompanist, and to Jere Guldin the projectionist. We were all transported back in time under a beautiful moon. It goes without saying that we owe a debt of gratitude to the generous residents of Kendra Court who opened their gates to the community and helped create the perfect theatre, and to Alwyn Martin for providing a lovely, candle lit restroom. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped raise over $1,000 for the Association. Whitley Heights is such a unique and special neighborhood and I loved seeing us come together to chat and laugh, to help set-up and break-down. Hoping we'll all do more of this together and keep our community strong. Neighborhood Clean-Sweep coming up on October 23!
