Redistricting of our CD

Whitley Heights AWAKEN!!! Has anyone paid attention to the current redistricting of LA city council districts??? If so you would notice that CD4 (WH) & 2 are in a quandary. We could end up assigned to a CD with Valley communities -- with whom we have little in common or we could make a stand to be kept with our hillside neighbors in Hollywood. The Commission will be zooming tomorrow for their last hearing and taking public comment. It is important that they hear from us. CRITICAL: Testify at Saturday’s (10/16) Zoom Hearing at 10AM. ZOOM LINK:bit.ly/LACCRCZoom Meeting ID No. 161 545 4787 Call In: 1-669-254-5252, enter 161 545 4787# Join the Meeting Early! Raise Your Hand to Speak Immediately! OR Email: redistricting.lacity@lacity.org It is important that the Commission know:

  • we are an early Hollywood HPOZ and should be kept with the Hollywood community

  • we are in a Very High Fire Severity zone and need to be with like communities

  • this community grew up around the film, TV and music industries that are vital to Hollywood's history

  • we share environmental concerns moreso with Hollywood communities than Valley communities.

  • keeping us together will help protect and maintain a historic Hollywood resource.

Time to take a stand!!!

Thank You!

Speaking at hearings ( unfortunately today is the last one) and submitting comments count. Redistricting Commissioners keep record of numbers of community input/requests.

Our neighboring Hollywood Hills communities, from Hollywood Dell to the east of us to Griffith Park have requested to be together in Griffith Park area in district CD13 and probably will be granted, so all our fellow CD4 groups there will be CD13.

Hollywood Hills to the west of us to Laurel Canyon requested being placed in CD5 and granted their request, CD4 groups there are now in CD5. Commissioners came up with the “CD4 or CD2” complication, not placing CD4 anywhere and now we are threatened winding up in CD2 in the Valley district. Unfortunately, WH is last remaining of Hollywood Hills in CD4, after all the community requests to be moved to CD13 and CD5, and in the undecided “CD2 or CD4” groups since all other CD4 groups are moving to CD5 and CD13, leaving decision up to city council whether we wind up in CD2 in the valley.

if we request being moved to a viable Hollywood District now, we can avoid that happening later.

Community input is very important and the other communities were organized and offered a lot of it, over months of hearings.

WH the most historic, a Hollywood Historic Resource, one of the earliest Hollywood developments, developed by HJ Whitley, ‘The Father of Hollywood’ is now isolated from the other Hollywood Hill communities, and the one remaining that may be moved to a valley district. The most historic of the Hills, closest to national historic register Hollywood Blvd must stay in a Hollywood District as there are no common ‘community interests’ with the Valley, and its special needs will not be served in a valley district. Please request they keep all the Hollywood Hills IN Hollywood, rejoin WH with the rest of the Hollywood Hills IN a Hollywood District, and that’s the whole original development, of single family and apartments (Whitley Ave, etc) that’s CD4 now, not just the HPOZ, WH must not be part of the group of “CD4 or CD2“ not having been placed in a viable district and potentially winding up in the valley and must be placed in a Hollywood District now, before that happens. Since CD13 (O’Farrell) is across Franklin from us and is the district the Nationally Designated Historic Hollywood core below us is in, which compliments our historic Hollywood neighborhood, WH should be placed CD13 …now.

CD5, (Koretz) ) where the Hills west of us moved to, and those are our fellow HHWNC neighbors, is now populated with enough communities, and full.

Thank you!
