Tues. Sept. 13th..4:30pm.. 1723 Wilcox Hotel Hearing…Keep residents in their homes.Oppose another Hotel replacing Residential/RSO housing.

After many '1723 Wilcox Ave.hotel project' presentations at HHWNC area meetings with a lot of community input at meetings with Area 3, 4, and other NC chairs, the biggest issue was pretty unanimous… no one wanted another Hotel in the area, replacing affordable and RSO housing. And this proposed hotel would go up right next door to The Whiskey Hotel going up there now. HHWNC opposed the hotel project due to displacement issues and loss of more residential and RSOs for another hotel in the area. At the previous 'appeal hearing', the applicant withdrew the hotel project, saying in light of the pandemic and the need for affordable housing, they will redesign the project and create a residential and affordable project or a hotel providing residential with some affordable.
This was great news!
Residents would be able to remain in their homes. Today, at 4:30PM, is a continuance of that hearing. If anyone would like to call in and/or submit comments encouraging them to do all they can to create the residential/affordable project (desperately needed in this area) the information is below....
We heard they are working on this potential project change with CD13...
Some encouragement from the communities can't hurt.

This area has lost so many residents, and families to displacement, suffered great losses of residential and RSOs for hotels and luxury projects. It's worth the effort to try and keep our neighbors in their homes, and potentially see more residential and affordable created in the area.. Thank you!
