Party House Ordinance in Effect 4/15

Increasing fines up to $8,000.

Requires those who violate the ordinance to post a public notice for 30 days notifying neighbors of their unlawful conduct.

Penalizes both party hosts and homeowners.

"With escalating fines this ordinance has the teeth to help us continue our house party prosecutions with greater effectiveness. I applaud Councilmember Ryu’s leadership on this.” said City Attorney Mike Feurer.

The ordinance is now in the Los Angeles Municipal Code under Chapter IV, Article 1, Section 41.58.1. Read the final ordinance here.

Here are a few tips copied from our March newsletter.

> Call LAPD non-emergency number to report nuisance activity; such as when noise is too loud. 877-275-5273. Extensive wait times are common. This can be frustrating. Persistence and patience are essential; as LAPD resources are stretched. You must stay on the line until you speak to an operator, for a nuisance issue to be documented in the Call Log. LAPD and our Neighborhood Prosecutor utilize the 877-275-5273 call log's documented nuisance reports to initiate investigations or as supporting evidence toward a problem site.

> Collect evidence of parties in the form of videos and photos. [Videos are great because you can hear the blaring music and any drunken activity.]

> Submit correspondence from multiple sources (neighbors) effected by the nuisance property: street filled (overwhelmed) with ride-shares and SUVs (hired-car); cars unable to pass; obstructed street parking; trash; broken bottles; 'quality of life' and safety issues; etc.
