Update on Hollywood Heritage and Community efforts to Save Historic 1813 -1821 N. Grace Ave. buildings from demolition.

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Community stakeholders recently had a meeting with Hollywood Heritage regarding the fate of Historic 1813 -1821 N. Grace Ave. buildings.

Hollywood Heritage has been working to save the buildings and shared information with us and guided us as to how the community can help the efforts.

LA Conservancy is also involved.

We have been asked to please call CD13 office.....

Include addresses 1813 - 1821 N. Grace Ave. in correspondence.

Hollywood Heritage  recommended the following points to bring up  as to why the buildings should be saved:

-The buildings are in an official 'Historic District' ’Hollywood North Multifamily Historic District’ also ‘Grace Ave. Historic District’

-It has been Surveyed for 'SurveyLA', and will be included in The Hollywood Community Plan 2019 update.

-Historic information is included in the Survey. -The Historic District is  protected by CEQA (California Environmental Quality Act) -The whole block is in the Historic District and is important, not just these two buildings. -The architects are impressive and in all the Surveys...        - H.J. Knauer ............(1885 - 1955)        -Clarence J. Smale....(1886 - 1966)

-There are a number of other historic buildings on Grace Ave:       The N. F. Stokes  Residence... (built in 1917).....1905 Grace Ave.....Historic Cultural Monument # 1095 The El Cabrillo Apartments..... (built by Cecil B. DeMille in 1928).....1832-1850 Grace Ave.....Historic Cultural Monument  #773 Hollywood Heritage asked us to make sure and include to CD13:

  "No Demos Should Ever Be Approved  Without a Planned Project" 

Please spread the word to friends and neighbors...especially if you know anyone in CD13, and tell them to make sure to let the council district office know they are CD13 constituents.
