HPOZ's not protected under SB827
If SB827 passes (Tuesday), the state will dictate development, there will no longer be any city, community input, no design restrictions, no parking requirements in SB827 projects. Parcels will be upzoned to allow taller, high density multiplexes from 4-10 or 12 stories into every single family neighborhood near a bus stop, in California, including in *HPOZ's which will no longer be protected... 96% of L.A.'s HPOZ's will no longer be protected according to Office of Historic Resources..
35 affordable housing advocate groups have come out against SB827..since it is not affordable housing and will cause displacement.
It is opposed at every end of the spectrum.

"The DCP representatives stated that the DCP does not normally take a position on legislation, however based on their analysis of SB 827 and subsequent amendments, the bill would impact the ability of the City to retain design review authority and result in indirect displacement of tenants.
*Additionally, the DCP representatives spoke of the impact to the City's 35 Historic Preservation Overlay Zones (HPOZs) encompassing 21,000 properties. They reported that 96 percent of the acreage in these areas would be subject to the provisions of SB 827, and could allow for the alteration of significant historic features on properties within HPOZs in the City and impact the City's ability to review designs for 1,100 City landmarks and historic cultural monuments."
