2032 Whitley Avenue - New Retaining Wall

This morning the road was blocked from 2000 Grace Avenue to 6763 Whitley Terrace and dotted with orange Public Works Department trucks. Geotechnical Engineer, Easton Forcier, with Bureau of Engineering and Jerome with General Services Department said the plan is to stabilize the weak road. This requires rebuilding the existing retaining wall which is a century old. Soil samples are being taken. The boring analysis will help civil engineers design and construct the strongest, long-lasting wall possible. No date has been set yet but a budget had been approved. Hallelujah.

Retaining wall holds the street up. Currently it's sinking.

Our historic streets lack storm drains. Engineers will figure this standing water problem into the solution. Slowly but surely our streets are getting much needed love.

If only our street lights weren't so tempermental. WHCA board member, Terrell Tannen, has taken on this issue with Bureau of Street Lighting. His contact, Street Lighting Engineer Enrique Sanchez, understands our concerns and frustration. Thank you, Terrell.

Whitley Heights was the first neighborhood to install underground infrastructure. No ugly telephone poles visible for 97 years.

The citywide LED Upgrade Program reports 98% converted street lights since 2013. Our decorative street lamps vary in composition and are more labor-intensive for crews. BSL is saving the best for last.

Thanks for all this information - was wondering why they were taking soil samples - lots of equipment! Great that this is happening. And thanks to Terrell for taking on street lights!
