Street Light repair: CD4 response to WH inquiry

I wrote to J Anderson, Nithya Raman's Field Deputy for CD4 regarding the copper wire theft. This is his response. I recommend filing as many 311 Service Requests as possible to claim attention for our neighborhood. Good morning Terrell,

Our office is aware of ongoing copper wire theft in the area.

It has also occurred in Los Feliz, Hollywood Manor, Hollywood Knolls, Hollywood Dell, the hills west of Runyon Canyon, and Hollywood Heights. Virtually every neighborhood with vintage street lights has been struck since March.

We are working on having the vaults closed - many have already been taken care of - but the timeline for repair is considerable even in the rare instances when we are able to share priority locations with the Bureau of Street Lighting (BSL). For context, there are currently fewer than 200 city employees charged with maintaining more than 200,000 lights throughout Los Angeles - this includes regular maintenance, as well as unscheduled repairs like those necessitated by the ongoing epidemic of copper wire theft.

In the meantime, it is important that every light be reported on 311 to ensure that BSL is aware of the magnitude of the issue in any given area. If you wouldn't mind sharing this with your neighbors, it will help us ensure that no light gets left behind.
