Big Win For Whitley Heights
1919 - 1925 N. Wilcox venue - the proposed Hollywoodland Hotel
Zoning Administrator Fernando Tovar's ruling came out Friday August 4th. His determination is more than 60 page. The community receieved more than what they asked for. Developer Dimitri Samaha and the Wilcox 2015, LLC would be allowed to have a conditional use permit to sell a full line of alcoholic beverages if and when it builds a new 4-story hotel with a maximum of 122 rooms on the site of what is now a vacant lot and Caliber auto body shop. The hotel's pool will be for the exclusive use of hotel guests, and the restaurant in the old garage site will have to offer free two hour parking at the hotel to restaurant customers. The maximum height of the new hotel will be 48' 6". The last day to file any appeal would be August 18, 2017.
Whitley Heights residents mostly opposed the proposed design of the new hotel when it was proposed as a 6 story, 180 room hotel. The neighbors, led by Milan Kalra, turned out en masse at the Planning Department's public hearing. Julia Duncan, Council Member Ryu's Planning Deputy, spoke strongly in support of the neighbors' position(s).
