Clean Sweep Tradition

In 1955 members of the Whitley Heights Civic Association met at an empty lot armed with shovels, hoes, rakes, gloves, and saplings to landscape stretches of hillside along the freeway.

Clipped from the Los Angeles Evening Citizen News by Kathleen Perricone.

Today a mid-century house, 6763 Whitley Terrace, sits where this group once stood.

At 2040 Whitley Avenue a chess table and bronze plaque honors the memory of Beatrice Green (Mrs. Richard S. Green featured in the newspaper clipping above) and Brian Moore. "Birdie" and Brian inspired loving concern for Whitley Heights preservation, history, and character.

Please join neighbors at the chess table Saturday morning at 9:30 AM - or whenever you can get there. We will trim bushes along the sound wall and spruce up other public sections. Bring clippers, gloves, and tools to help beautify our special community. Council Member Raman will attend for a Walk Around.
