Follow up on our Town Hall with Senator Ben Allen..Here's the Positive Take Away!
On Monday, April 12, the Hancock Park HA co-hosted a multi neighborhood Town Hall with our state senator, Sen. Ben Allen to discuss two important land use and zoning bills that are now being debated in the senate, SB 9 and SB 10.
We had a very lively, informative and successful discussion on these important bills with our Senator Ben Allen.
It was great to have one of our important elected officials actually listen and engage with our neighborhood leadership.
Here's the positive take away! We all heard our Senator state that: -He realizes the problems with SB 9 & SB 10.
- He understands --allowing local control.
-Protecting historic neighborhoods.
-Funding upgrades of our infrastructure.
-Protecting the environment and mature tree canopies. -Protecting all our neighborhoods.
-He stated that he will not be a "yes" on these bills. -He hopes to find better solutions to our affordable housing problems by allowing commercial corridors to be better developed.
-He wants the community to not just be against things but to help find solutions.
And that's what we all want.

Senator Allen was impressed with presentations by all the neighborhood groups that co hosted the Town Hall, from a variety of areas east to west, north to south....describing their communities and how SB9 and SB10 would impact them.
HPOZs were in attendance.
He expressed that all these groups uniting is great and members of UN should continue spreading the word, growing, continuing the activism, submitting 'position papers', submitting comments, calling state reps offices, as state reps discussing and deliberating on the bills are impressed by numbers of groups and people and their expressions opposing or supporting bills.
