CHC Unanimously Votes to Nominate Montecito for HCM

From Art Deco Society of Los Angeles:

The 1931 Montecito Art Deco meets Mayan Revival apartment building in Hollywood came up before the Cultural Heritage Commission on July 5 for consideration as a Los Angeles Cultural Heritage Monument.

The CHC voted to take the property under consideration.

The application was submitted by the Art Deco Society of Los Angeles.

Send your letter of support for the nomination via e-mail next week to support this nomination.

Below is an excerpt of a letter that condenses the facts of why the building should be considered.

You can email a simple statement saying that you support the Art Deco Society's nomination or you can get more elaborate. If you live in the neighborhood state that too! If you live in the building then you can mention details of features that are special about the building.

Include this in your subject line: THE MONTECITO, CHC-2018-3233-HCM; CEQA: ENV-2018-3234-CE

The Montecito Apartments have been part of the Hollywood skyline since 1931. It is considered a stunning example of Art Deco architecture with a Mayan revival flair. This "grande dame" residence is already listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, but local landmark status will give the building increased protection. We urge the city to designate it as a Los Angeles Historic Cultural Monument.

The Montecito's grounds are a beautiful garden-park with 27 mature trees, plants, bushes, and sitting areas. This landscaped park is not only an integral part of the historic Montecito, but it contributes to Los Angeles' vital urban canopy and should be included in the Historic Cultural Monument Designation.

If you have questions about the landmark procedure  please contact artdeco@adsla.org

The Montecito is a U.S. National Historically designated Landmark.

The Art Deco Society of Los Angeles has applied for Los Angeles Historic Cultural Monument historical designation.
