From The Art Deco Society of Los Angeles.....

The Montecito National Historic Landmark building in Hollywood comes up before the Cultural Heritage Commission on July 5 for consideration as a Los Angeles Cultural Heritage Monument. The application was submitted by the Art Deco Society of Los Angeles. If you are unable to attend the hearing in person to speak on behalf of the Landmark, please send your letter of support for the nomination via e-mail by Friday if possible.

If Friday has passed, please send it anyway.

Below is an excerpt of a letter that condenses the facts of why the building should be considered.

You can email a simple statement saying that you support the Art Deco Society's nomination or you can get more elaborate. If you live in the neighborhood state that too!

Include this in your subject line: THE MONTECITO, CHC-2018-3233-HCM; CEQA: ENV-2018-3234-CE

email to CHC@LACITY.ORG cc: craig.bullock@lacity.org (council district 13 planner)

Not only is The Montecito considered one of the best examples of Art Deco architecture, this stunning *grande dame* property of Hollywood is already listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. There is no reason not to designate it as a Los Angeles Historic Cultural Monument.

The stately 1930 historic Montecito Landmark, considered the highest building in Hollywood,  looks out over Hollywood and the city, from high up on a hill.

The west side of the building looks out over the stunning 'landscaped gardens of the private park space enjoyed by Montecito (senior) residents' (Historic Review...pg. 11), with a great variety of  plants, flowers, bushes, shrubs, and 27 trees.

The beautiful park must also be historically preserved, as it is a tranquil, peaceful haven and beautifully compliments the Montecito Landmark..

This landscaped park is not only an integral part of the historic Montecito, but it contributes to Los Angeles' vital urban canopy.

Thank you!
